Accommodation

Our Accommodation Officer can help our students to find somewhere nice to stay while they are studying with us. We understand how important accommodation is and this is why we always make certain that our Homestay accommodation is carefully checked by our staff to ensure that our students are comfortable, happy and safe.

Students over 18 can also choose our recommended self-catering student apartments, private house share and guest house/hotels.

Accommodation is monitored by our staff to maintain good quality and a safe environment. We advise our students to be very careful when looking for accommodation. It is very important to not hand over money (e.g. deposit) until you are sure that the person you are paying to really is the landlord. If you feel that something is not right regarding the agency, the landlord, the contract or the accommodation itself, please turn to us for help.

Homestay

Staying in a British home is the perfect way to practise newly acquired language skills, to experience the English way of life and culture as well as to make long-lasting friendships. Nottingham Language Academy has an approved network of hosts who are experienced in looking after our students. All Homestay hosts are carefully chosen before being appointed. The hosts treat our students as full members of the household, eat together and share their common living areas with them. We also ensure that no more than four students are placed in the same homestay accommodation at any one time.

Most of our Homestay accommodation is within walking distance or a short bus ride from the Academy.

Please note that our Homestay accommodation option is only available for our full-time students (students studying more than 12 hours/week at the Academy).

  • Breakfast: Breakfast in England is usually cereal and toast. In most cases it is you who prepares breakfast for yourself.
  • Dinner: A usual English dinner, such as meat or fish or a vegetarian alternative, potatoes, pasta or rice and fresh vegetables.
  • Lunch: This is provided only on Saturdays and Sundays if you have opted for half-board. If you have opted for full-board, on weekdays lunch may be a ‘packed lunch’.
  • Snacks: Homestay hosts do not usually provide snacks.

General Rules

If you do not eat at the same time as your homestay hosts, you might have to prepare food yourself.

Please remember that although the hosts speak to you in English, they are not your English teachers so do not ask them to help you with your homework.

Your clothes will be washed and you will be provided with clean towels and bed sheets on a regular basis.

You will be expected to keep your bedroom clean and follow the rules of the house.

You might wish to join your homestay hosts for activities outside of class.

Homestays are in areas all around Nottingham. Usually you will need to catch a bus to get to the Academy. Most homestays are a 15-30 minute bus ride away. The closest bus stop to the Academy is called Canning Circus.

We will send you information about your homestay before you arrive.

You must pay 4 weeks' homestay fees to the host in advance.

Short term students (students studying for less than 4 weeks) will need to pay for their full period in advance. There is a two-week minimum stay.

If you want to leave your homestay, you must give a two-week notice. If you move out before the two-week notice period, you will still be charged for the whole period.

If you take a holiday and want to continue living with the same homestay hosts on your return, you will be required to make full payment for the holiday period too.

Prices are £110 or £130 per week depending on meal options along with a one-off booking fee of £30.

16 and 17 year-olds studying on adult courses must stay in Homestay accommodation or with their own families/relatives.

These students are allowed to travel to and from the Academy by bus. The host will show the student the route beforehand. Students must arrive at the Homestay by 6.30 each evening for their meal. Travel passes will be arranged on the first day. Students are allowed out unsupervised in the evenings but must keep to the recommended curfew time of 9.30pm. Students who wish to travel outside the Nottingham area must get written permission from their parent/guardian with the exact details of their planned journey. Overnight stays without appropriate adult supervision will not be allowed.
